Privacy policy

What the game uses, why, and what you can do about it.

Puddle & Paw is a game made by Ember Pocket, based in Denmark. Ember Pocket is the controller of the information described here. Questions or requests: support@tinylantern.app.

What the game keeps

Your game progress. Your shop, animals, eggs, recipes, friendships and settings are saved on your phone. So that they are not lost, the game also keeps a copy online. It uploads that copy when you close the game, at the end of an in-game day, and otherwise at most every 15 minutes while you play. We keep one older backup copy as well, in case the newest is ever damaged.

An anonymous account. To hold that copy the game creates an account for your installation, with a random user id. No name is needed. Our server also records the network address (IP address) and device type that your phone sends when it signs in, to limit abuse.

Your email address, only if you choose to give it. "Keep this save" in Settings asks for an email address so you can restore your shop on another phone. We email a one-time code to confirm it and use the address for nothing else. We send no marketing.

Purchases. If you buy gems, Google Play handles the payment. We never see your card or payment details. The purchase token Google gives the game is stored inside your save, so one purchase is never counted twice.

Who handles it

• Cloudflare runs our server and the database, which is kept in the EU.
• Resend (United States) sends the one-time code emails. It sees your email address and the code, under the EU's standard contractual clauses.
• Google provides Play Billing for purchases.

They act for us, only to run the game. We do not sell your information or share it for advertising.

Ads

The game contains Google's AdMob software for optional rewarded video ads. During testing no ads are shown, the software does nothing and the test build does not use the advertising ID. When ads are switched on, the game first asks for your consent where the law requires it, through Google's consent form, and you can change your choice later in Settings. Google may then collect your device's advertising ID, IP address and ad interaction information to show and measure ads. That is governed by Google's own privacy policy. Nothing is shown or collected for ads unless you watch one by choice.

Notifications

If you allow them, the game sets its own reminders on your phone, such as when an egg is ready to hatch. They are planned and shown by your phone alone: nothing about them is sent to us or anyone else. You can turn each one off in Settings, or all of them in your phone's settings.

What the game does not do

No analytics, no crash-reporting services, no tracking across apps. No location, contacts, camera or microphone.

How long we keep it

Your online save, its backup and your email address are kept while your account is in use. A daily job deletes every account whose last save upload was more than 24 months ago (an account that never uploaded a save counts from the day it was created), together with its save, backup, email address, sign-in sessions and unused sign-in codes. Uninstalling the game removes what is on your phone, but not the online copy; delete that first if you want it gone.

Deleting your data

You can delete everything yourself, straight away:

• In the game: Settings, then Delete my data.
• On the web, if the game is no longer installed: https://puddle-and-paw-api.tinylantern.app/delete. Enter the email address you kept your save with, then the code we send to it.

This removes your account, online save, backup and email address at once. If you never gave an email address, your online copy is anonymous and cannot be looked up by us; deleting it in the game is the way to remove it. Google keeps its own purchase records under its own policy.

Your rights

If you are in the EU, EEA or UK you may see, correct or delete your information, object to or restrict its use, and complain to your data protection authority (in Denmark, Datatilsynet). Write to support@tinylantern.app; we reply within 30 days. Because most accounts are anonymous, we may ask you to prove the account is yours, for example by the email code.

Children

Puddle & Paw is for players aged 13 and over and is not directed at younger children. If you believe a child under 13 has an account, write to us and we will delete it.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version is posted here with a new date, before the change reaches the game.
